Insulation options and grants

Paying for insulation in your home is important in order to improve the energy efficiency of your property and reduce those ever-increasing energy bills. Some of the simple insulation measures can be done yourself at a relatively cheap cost, while those needing professional assistance can start from around £450.

Remember, there are a number of insulation measures you can take advantage of, including:

  • Loft insulation
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Solid wall insulation
  • Floor insulation
  • Roof insulation
  • Draught proofing

Insulation grants

There was once free insulation available to every home under the Government-backed scheme Cert. However, this ceased to exist from December 2012, but you may still be eligible for free insulation under the ECO scheme so it’s a good idea to apply and find out if it applies to you.

The ECO scheme only has a certain amount of funding available, so ensure to apply quickly if you want to take advantage of it.

The Green Deal is also available, and acts as a loan against your home to cover the cost of insulation. This loan is then paid back with the energy savings you’ll make. There are interest rates with this loan though so make sure to consider your options.
